Hej Brandon, thanks for taking the time to respond so elaborately. I think you have some fair points. The essay started out as an attempt to tell people that beauty on its own has value and that is a different way to look at the world that is valuable and has impact in its own way. You recognize that in your comment. Unfortunately also some disgruntlement crept in. I have written many essays here on design and I totally agree with your vision on design as a complex strategic process. Functionality is crucial. I believe designers can work perfectly at the intersection between form, function and strategy. But there is also some disappointment in how much of the potential that design has has manifested. It feels there is more potential for the strategic view on design. I thought impact was an interesting angle to explore the potential of the interaction between design and business. I realize I made this more black an white than it is and I generalized design.
